About Us

The INDYCAR Benevolent Foundation’s mission is to provide support and resources to members of the INDYCAR sanctioned motorsports community during times of hardship due to injury, illness and/or loss of life.

How we got started

The Benevolent Fund of Motorsports, Inc., d.b.a. INDYCAR Benevolent Foundation, Inc. began as a 501 c 3 entity on October 1, 1996. The INDYCAR Benevolent Foundation’s mission is to provide support and resources to members of the INDYCAR sanctioned motorsports community during times of hardship due to injury, illness and/or loss of life.

Our purpose is to provide charity and financial assistance during times of hardship, injury, illness or death to licensed participants of the INDYCAR sanctioned motorsports community including race car drivers and their families, race team members, accredited media, INDYCAR personnel, and other licensed entrants supporting the INDYCAR motorsports industry.

With the help of many supporters from the general public including valued fans of the sport, the greater motorsports community, as well as others in the extended family, since its inception the foundation has been able to successfully raise more than $2 million in funds to provide a wide range of help to numerous members of the motorsports community experiencing hardships.

News: “INDYCAR Benevolent Foundation goes live” By Marshall Pruett, RACER, December 19, 2024

It was called CARA, the Championship Auto Racing Auxiliary in the 1980s and ’90s, and its successor, the IFF, the Indy Family Foundation, served as charitable organizations designed to assist members of the IndyCar paddock in times of urgent financial needs. If a crew member had medical expenses they couldn’t cover, funds are drawn to help, or in the case of losing a loved one, help with funeral costs has been provided. Outpouring of dollars to help get someone’s daily driver repaired, or recover from a natural disaster, or a fire, or whatever else might be needed among the hundreds of people who make the NTT INDYCAR SERIES function is where the charity focuses its emergency relief efforts. It has now recently undergone a number of changes and has now been renamed the INDYCAR Benevolent Foundation.
